Connecticut is one of the wealthiest states in the country. But too many families are still struggling to afford housing, healthcare, childcare, and the rising cost of everyday life. For too long, our economy and tax system have favored the wealthy and powerful while working people are asked to do more with less. But there’s enough money in Connecticut to guarantee everything we need to build a good life.
Our vision includes:
A FAIR TAX SYSTEM: Increase taxes for the wealthiest individuals and corporations so Connecticut can invest in the public good and mitigate harms from federal cuts.
A SENSIBLE ADJUSTMENT TO THE FISCAL CONTROLS: Support the volatility cap being permanently tied to a more accurate measure of returns; raise the spending cap; and don’t renew the fiscal controls in 2027 without rigorous hearings and a review of research on their efficacy.
HOUSING WE CAN AFFORD: Strengthen tenant protections, including expanding Just Cause, expand affordable housing in all communities, and combat speculative, corporate investment in housing.
GOOD JOBS WITH DIGNITY: Support union jobs, fair wages, worker protections, and economic policies that allow working people to build stable lives.
EXCELLENT PUBLIC EDUCATION IN EVERY COMMUNITY: Fully-fund public schools, childcare, and public higher education so that every child has the opportunity to succeed. Don’t divert public funds to charter schools or private school vouchers.
HEALTHCARE WE CAN RELY ON: Protect and expand access to affordable and quality health care, including mental health care and care for immigrant families. Prioritize patient care over corporate profits.
DEMOCRACY THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE: Strengthen civic participation and transparency, protect voting rights, and build a government that is accountable to people — not wealthy special interests.
